The Philippines put up a great fight but came up short against Thailand, 7-13, in the semifinals of the Asia Oceania Confederation Cup at the Alonte Sports Arena here on Thursday night.
A four-goal barrage late in the first period set the tone for Thailand’s breakaway from the Philippines, which brought the fight to the visitors in the next two periods, forcing a shootout the rest of the way.
Watcharapon Onsuk finished with a hat trick, scoring three goals in succession to lead Thailand.
Chusak Narkprasert, who completed a brace of his own plus two assists, the last of which led to Pitsanu Kannala completing his own brace, was named the best player for the team.
Jan Vitaliano and Ryan Hallden each netted a brace for the Philippines, while Lucas Oijvall was named the team’s best player for his lone goal and one assist.
Thailand will face Singapore, 13-1 winner over South Korea in the other semifinal, for the gold on Friday night at the same venue, while the Philippines will dispute for the bronze against South Korea. (PNA)
